Princess Birgitta Ingeborg Alice was born on January 19, 1937, as the daughter of Crown Prince Gustav Adolf and Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. She was the second oldest child of her three sisters and her brother Carl Gustaf, the current King of Sweden. During her studies in Munich, she met her future husband, the German prince and art historian Johann Georg of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. The engagement of the couple was announced in December 1960, and the civil wedding took place on May 25, 1961, in Stockholm Castle, followed by the church wedding on May 30, 1961, in Sigmaringen (Baden-Württemberg). Birgitta was allowed to keep the title "Royal Highness" due to her husband's noble origin.

Princess Brigitta Had Been Living in Mallorca for Many Years

The couple separated in 1990 but remained married until Johann Georg died in 2016. After the separation from her husband, Princess Birgitta moved to Spain and lived in Mallorca until her death.
