A recent incident has drawn attention to the North American airspace. Several US Air Force fighter jets were deployed to intercept unknown aircraft that were located in a sensitive area of international airspace.
Recently, Russian fighter jets were spotted on a patrol flight near a critical coastal region. They intruded into the so-called Air Defense Identification Zone - a buffer zone in international airspace that serves for early warning and air defense. The Russian aircraft were two long-range Tupolev Tu-95MS Bear bombers, escorted by two Suchoi Su-35 Flanker jets. They were part of an extended mission that lasted 15 hours. Read more here:
