A palace announcement is causing quiet confusion. While there are big worries in the background, the planning is already far ahead – and one detail is particularly interesting: A multi-day trip abroad is supposed to take place, even though nothing is as it used to be in private.
The Norwegian court has officially announced that Prince Haakon will embark on a multi-day foreign visit in the summer of 2026. An official trip to Japan is planned from June 2nd to 4th, 2026. Details of the program are expected to follow in the coming weeks.
The trip comes at a sensitive time. Shortly before Christmas 2025, the palace announced that Mette-Marit had to prepare for a lung transplant due to a serious chronic lung disease. It is not yet clear when the procedure will take place – but the situation is considered serious.
