From Light Switch to Snow Globe

The episode cut to a vignette of Colbert and McCartney near a giant light switch; when they pulled it, a previously shown wormhole shrank the Ed Sullivan Theater into a snow globe. The camera then showed the street outside, where Colbert's dog Benny sniffed the globe before Colbert quietly said, "Come on Benny, let's go," and ended the show.

Gratitude, Guests and the End of an Era

Colbert had announced on July 17, 2025 that The Late Show was coming to an end after over 30 years; he reminded viewers he took over from David Letterman in 2015 and expressed deep thanks to roughly 200 people who work on the program. CBS called the cancellation "purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night." The final week featured appearances from Jon Stewart, Steven Spielberg, Bruce Springsteen and David Byrne, as Colbert hoped the show left audiences laughing and feeling better.
